Some Progress at Last

Guess who’s making progress on those bed size Quilts I’ve been putting off forever…yayyy you guessed right meee!!!

OK I can be all excited about this now but I promise you this progress wasn’t without its fair share of  sweat, pain and perseverance. Why did I ever believe those videos and blog tutorials that convinced me that “Quilt as you go” is the easiest and fun method to Quilt a large Quilt on a domestic sewing machine? I mean I had to believe this because the thought of logging a 72 x 96” quilt through the throat of my machine was too daunting to even consider.  Truth be told I enjoyed the liberty of being able to quilt each block at my convenience but joining the blocks was such a struggle.

For the life of me I can’t decide if I now dislike “Quilt as you go” or just too traumatized at the moment, well I haven’t tried the alternative so it is hard to say. The only thing I can say for sure is that I will think twice before jumping on the “Quilt as you go” bandwagon the next time! I have 3 more Quilts to complete and only time will tell but I still shudder at the thought of Quilting the complete quilt as a whole. I am also revisiting the various options of joining Quilt as you go blocks some of which looks rather stressful but I’m willing to accept I might be doing something wrong, I don’t want to believe the process should be that stressful.

Nevertheless, if I choose to forget all the pain and the sweat, then  I can gladly report that I have made progress on two of my Double bed Quilts hence the excitement. I did take my own advise and decided to stop my creatively disguised procrastination. The results may not be as perfect (perfection is completely overrated) as I would have liked but I am just glad I got a move on rather than shivering at the thought of basting and Quilting these monsters. For the record, my biggest project so far was this Lap size which finished at 58 x 72″ and was ironically my first Quilt as you go project. In all honesty, it wasn’t too bad or maybe I just forgot the struggles so fast…hmm.

Anyway, here is what I have been up to as regards the Quilts, they are currently awaiting binding which I will hopefully attack this weekend all things being equal (I have a funny feeling I might give in to that other project that’s been whispering my name).

I will definitely do another post about these Quilts and take decent pictures in better light probably outdoors but right now this night time pictures will have to do :).

If only I wasn’t living on the other side of the world I’d have been a very regular customer. You can actually design a quilt and have them print it on a panel that is ready to Quilt, no more cutting or piecing can you imagine? Well discussion for another day.

Finally, thanks to Karen and Jodie from the Hive Sewciety of the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers for their wonderful critique of my blog. Ladies I hope you can see me implementing your wonderful feedback.  Thanks all for stopping by and I’ll appreciate your opinion in the comment section about binding options for these two. For the first one I am contemplating a dark fabric with purple flowers and for the other one I think I want to go with that bright pink on the Quilt top? Have a wonderful weekend ahead.

Sola 🙂

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment and yes Pattern Jam is so interesting and I was really glad to have found it. Unfortunately I haven’t had enough time to play around there but I have a couple more patterns I’ve designed that I hope to make soon.

  1. This is quite amazing, I personally am a huge fan of quilting and was introduced by my G/mum. I came to find quilters have some form of intelligence with color codes and that knocked me off. I hope you carry me along with your amazing talent display thru pattern jams!!! Goodluck
